One Step Closer

Posted: January 28, 2013 in Diet and exercise

A typical meal for me today
2 boiled/fried eggs in the morning with 2 pieces of whole meal bread or oatmeal,  2 pieces of ham/bacon/cheese with a cup of tea or coffee using canderel as my sweetener of choice,

For lunch or dinner, either chicken, beans, ndengu, beef stew or fish with plenty of veggies with diet coke, fresh juice or flavoured water.

For snacks, peanuts, macadamia nuts, an apple or piece of any fruit and plenty of water

When I want to treat myself, sugar-free wafers, sugar free ice-cream or sugar-free chocolate or sweets. This happens every couple of weeks sometimes months. As I said we are all different, nothing wrong with spoiling yourself every now and then with fast food or a treat, but control it and don’t make it a habit like I did. You can get some sugar free products from healthy you stores at junction, galleria, yaya and Sarit or Nakumatt.

Working out bit:

I properly started working out last year in January. It started with 30minute walks around my neighbourhood but that got boring after like a week. So what happened is that I was introduced to work out DVD’s. The thing about working out by yourself is the amount of motivation that you need to keep pushing yourself and the way you do the work out in terms of if you’re doing it in the most effective way. You have to follow instructions very meticulously so that you don’t hurt your back or some other part of your body.

So I started with Zumba and loved it, then went to tae bo, which got a lot harder and then got one called hip hop abs which is fun but not hard enough. I tried one called “insanity” which I am sure most of you have heard about and its crazy. I have never been motivated enough to try it again. As workouts go with most people, you have so much psych in the beginning but kinda loose focus as you continue. I would advise an accountability partner, be it a friend, boyfriend, family member or watching videos of obese people loosing weight (that motivates me sometimes), have something that you can gain back focus and always remember the goals you had set, be it loosing weight or fitness. I do this maybe 3 to 4 times a week and when I don’t have the time I just go for very long walks, an hour or so. I lost about 8kgs last year. I had planned to loose way more but this year I plan to loose at least ten more in a shorter period of time. But never the less my main goal is to continue working out and eating well as part of my life and not a seasonal quest.
